Our Story
Rooted in Collinsville since 1949. Serving God and serving others today.

Smith Memorial began when Methodists in the Martinsville and Collinsville area recognized the need for a new congregation in the community. With support from area churches and the leadership of the Danville District, the congregation was organized as Collinsville Methodist Church on January 2, 1949.

From the beginning, this church was shaped by people who believed faith should make a difference in the life of the community.

Becoming Smith Memorial
A growing congregation found a permanent home.

On November 13, 1949, the congregation became Smith Memorial Methodist Church in honor of John R. Smith, who donated land for the church’s present location.

While the new church building was being planned and constructed, the congregation worshiped at Crooms Cleaners, a local laundromat. The sanctuary was dedicated and opened for worship on May 22, 1955. Since then, the building has been expanded and adapted as the congregation’s ministries have grown.

Today, Smith Memorial continues the work begun by its earliest members. We gather for worship, prayer, study, fellowship, and service. We share meals, support our neighbors, welcome questions, and seek to create a community where every person is valued.

Our history is filled with faithful people and meaningful moments, but we believe God is still writing our story. We invite you to help us shape the next chapter.
